Lenka Zemanova wins the ITU Premium European Cup in Sanremo. The competition starts well for Italy, with Silvia Gemignani great protagonist in the swim portion, followed by Miro of Spain. The two have a 20 second advantage over the chase group that includes Cortassa and Filipetto.
During the first cycling lap the chase pack erases the gap. On the first downhill Lisa Hutthaller of Austria moves into first position, followed by a chase group of 17 athletes including Cortassa, Filipetto, Gemignani, Meunier, Rosicano, Zemanova, Collonge and Clarke. Cortassa, not in the best condition, decides to withdraw from the race. French Collonge and English Clarke try to erase the gap, but at the end of the third lap Hutthaller still has a 50 second advantage over the chase pack.
During the second half of the run portion Zemanova and Collonge erase the gap. Zemanova leads the race and reaches the finish in first position. Collonge finishes second, Hutthaller third.
