Zemanova and Sysoev took the gold in Holten

Lenka Zemanova from Czech Republic and Igor Sysoev from Russia crowned king and queen at the 2007 Holten ITU Triathlon Premium European Cup.

In the women’s race Lenka Zemanova has taken an easy gold as she was in the leading group from the beginning of the race. After the first running lap Zemanova took the lead and never looked back. Behind the Czech favourite the race was opened for silver and bronze medals. With their superb run Zemanova’s compatriots Radka Vodickova and Vendula Frintova pushed the Russian Irina Abysova form the podium on the last kilometer.

After the swim a huge group came out of the first transition in the men’s competion. The defending champion Andrey Gluschchenko was in the lead pack when he gave up the race. Both of his palms were cut by something during the swimming in the river and they were bleeding heavily. On the bike the huge leading group worked together without any breakaway. Out of the transition 2 Igor Sysoev pushed the pace and increased the distance among him and the chasers. The Russian athlete who was in TOP10 at the ETU Triathlon European Championships in Copenhagen last weekend finished in first place followed by three German athletes: Claude Eksteen (2nd), Helge Muetschard (3rd) and Matthias Zöll (4th).
