Aktau successfully concludes the 2022 Asia Triathlon Championships

With COVID-19 still affecting a major part of the Asian region and throwing many Championships and Continental Cups to cancel and postpone, Asia Triathlon would like to send a big “Thank you” to the Local Organizing Committee and the Kazakhstan Triathlon Federation for successfully hosting the 2022 Asia Triathlon Championships in Aktau on 17 and 18 September. A similar appreciation is given to LOC and Kazakhstan Triathlon Federation for the 2022 Asia Triathlon Junior and U23 Championships in Nur-Sultan back in August.

“We are working for the Sport and Athletes” Mr. Maxim Kriat, President of the Kazakhstan Triathlon Federation told Asia Triathlon on one occasion when preparations were reaching the final stage.

A big round of applause is sent to all athletes who have been training hard and adjusting to recent travel complications. A total of 38 male and 29 female athletes registered from a total of 9 member National Federations. For the category of Elite Men, Ren SATO (JPN) came in 1st place, Kenji NENER (JPN) in 2nd place, and Makoto ODAKURA (JPN) in 3rd place.

Team Japan took over the podium for the Elite Men category.


Yuko TAKAHASHI (JPN) came in 1st place, Xinyu LIN (CHN) in 2nd place, Yifan YANG (CHN) in 3rd place for the category of Elite Women.

The local elites, Ayan BEISENBAYEV and Ekaterina SHABALINA from Kazakhstan almost reached the podium, winning the 4th place in Men’s and Women’s respectively.

The Championships concluded with the Mixed Relay, where Team Japan came in 1st place, Team Hong Kong, China in 2nd place and Team China in 3rd place.
