Reports from Site Visits - Dextro Energy Triathlon ITU World Championship Series

Site Visit to Beijing
Representatives from ITU and the Local Organising Committee met on 18-19 January in Changping, Beijing to check up on preparations for the Dextro Energy Triathlon ITU World Championship Series Grand Final this year.

In addition to discussions on technical and venue operations, the two-day meetings covered logistical matters on ITU Congress and a parade for age-group athletes.  Transfer of knowledge from Budapest and Gold Coast, previous Grand Final host cities, was also an important discussion during the meetings.

Members of ITU were presented with the LOC its organisational structure, which is composed of Changping District Government, Beijing Sports Competition Management Centre and China Cycling-Fencing Administration Centre.  The Mayor of Beijing will serve as the Honorary President of the LOC.

Beijing first hosted an ITU Triathlon World Cup back in 2005, and staged test events for the 2008 Olympic Games from 2005 to 2007.

  • ITU: Murray Hilder (AUS) as ITU Technical Delegate, Thanos Nikopoulos (GRE), and Zita Csovelyak (HUN)
  • LOC: A total of 20 members including Mr. Chen Xiaoran, Deputy Secretary General, China Triathlon Sports Association (CTSA), Mr. Zhou Shanghai, Deputy Director, Beijing Sports Competition Management Centre, Mr. Du Xinchao, Deputy Director, Changping Sports Bureau, Mr. Qin Jianqiu, China Triathlon Sports Association (CTSA)

Site Visit to Yokohama
The Series Management Team, composed of ITU Senior Manager of Technical Operations Thanos Nikopoulos, and Dr. Mike Wilde, Carsten Richter, Oliver Schiek of Upsolut, also visited Yokohama, Japan for site inspections last week.  The two-day meeting covered items such as on-site course inspections, technical meetings, broacasting and branding.  After the successful visit, the team also traveled to Sydney, the site for the 2011 Series opener.
