Iran holds National Championships

Iran’s Triathlon Federation has held the national championships in the southern port city of Mahshar.

Some 400 athletes from 26 provinces took part in kid, youth, junior (17-18), Junior 19 and senior age groups.

The race was held with the assistance of Bandar Imam Petrochemical Complex and Mahshahr Sports Department.

The three-day event kicked off on February 12 and closed after the medal ceremony on February 14.

In the senior category, Salman Teymouri, 26, was crowned as champion, followed by Ehsan Aminian and Milad Taheri.

Teymuri began triathlon six years ago. He came in 13th in Asia triathlon championships and 8th in Asia biathlon championships.

Teams from Tehran, Isfahan and Mazandaran-Kish won the senior event respectively.

In the individual section of junior 19 group, Ali Lotfi bagged the cup. Mohammad Mehdi Rahmati and Reza Zareie came in second and third respectively.

Tehran, Isfahan and East Azerbaijan were named as the winners of the team section of the junior event.

The top three triathletes at Junior 17-18 group were Mohammad Ghazanchai, Sasan Malmir and Mohhamd Hosseini, while South Khorasan, Semnan and Isfahan became the top three teams.

The youth category witnessed a tight competition, with Amin Saghaie, Parsa Mahjoob and Hamed Khazaie standing on the podium as winners.

South Khorasan, Semnan and Isfahan received teams’ awards.

Kids also put in remarkable performance at the championships, with Nima Ansari bagging the cup. He was followed by Abolfazl Moradi and Hossein Rezaie.

Teams from Kurdistan, East Azerbaijan and Semnan were the top three in the category.
