Asia Triathlon

ITU is testing a new approach in Asia’s Sport Development with combining a talent ID program & coaching development. A team of ITU coaches visits different Asian National federations for a duration of 3 days. This project started in Chinese Taipei with the participation of 3 NF’s coaches and 18 athletes aged between 14-20 years old. Most of the Taipei athletes come from a swimming background.

This project allowed us to have a greater local impact by having more coaches and athletes involved in developing their NFs’ needs. Luc Morin, ITU expert from Canada, delivered his knowledge and experience to the local coaches and athletes on “how to identify talent”, periodization, and junior development. Daily sessions started coaches’ meetings to exchange ideas and plan the training with the acquired knowledge.

“It was an honor and a privilege to work with such devoted athletes and coaches eager to learn. Taipei is on the right path for developing their junior, more work needs to be done to sustain athletes’ development and coaching expertise.” Said Luc Morin, ITU expert

“I have learned a lot. The camp provided me with great opportunities to coach with an ITU expert, and learn recent training skill and theory. During training session, I asked many questions about the “why” of training methods. It really help me” Said Tien, Wei-Chang, Chinese Tapei National Team coach. “

This camp was a fantastic approach to developing countries’ specific needs. Some NF need talent identification and others to want learn more about sustainable athletes’ development. I am certain that we can fulfill NFs’ demands through this type of project” said Ki, Woo-kyong, ITU Asia Sport Development coordinator.
