Kat Matthews previews Ibiza

Britain’s Kat Matthews arrives as a firm favourite to podium on her first taste of blue carpet action since taking the European Middle Distance title in 2019. Winning silver at the 2021 IRONMAN World Championships was an enormous performance on debut, but a horrific training accident just weeks before the 2022 championships left her future in the sport looking anything but certain. Fast forward to this year and a remarkable recovery means that the 32-year-old heads into Ibiza off the back of a brilliant win in Texas and ready to stake her claim on the world title.

2023 World Cross Triathlon Championships Ibiza: Race Highlights

Italy’s multisport queen Sandra Mairhofer and Felix Forissier of France produce brilliant world title shows in the 2023 World Cross Triathlon Championships Ibiza. After a 1km swim in the emerald Balearic Sea it was a long run up into transition before two gruelling bike laps up into the hills that surround the famous town. Three distinct sections presented three different challenges, with gravel, rocks, trails and tarmac at various points, scything switchbacks and rapid descents on each of the 10km loops. A 5km run wrapped things up, combining technical sections, beach passes and rocky headlands, before hitting the chute for glory.

2023 World Cross Duathlon Championships Ibiza - Extended Race Highlights

Diede Diedericks and Sebastien Carabin proved unstoppable as they claimed gold in the elite races and were crowed 2023 Cross Duathlon world champions in San Antonio, all part of the 2023 World Multisport Championships Ibiza. Relive the action, from the race course, which opened with the 5.8km run, which looped through streets and woods before the athletes were sent back out onto the gravel and rocks, then a two-lap 20km bike into the hills combined tarmac climbs with rock-strewn ascents and switchback descents between the pines, the course ending with a 2.5km run to the tape along the San Antonio harbour.

Giorgia Priarone steered Italy safely home to the Duathlon 2x2 Mixed Relay World Championship title with teammate Samuele Anglini in Ibiza. Each leg comprised a fast, intense 2km run along the Santa Eulalia harbourside, straightforward 5km out-and-back bike and final 1km finish, with the men out first and women charged with taking the tape. 2023 World Duathlon Championships Ibiza: Elite Men’s Highlights

The pace was on from the very first paces of the opening 5km run, three-time world champion Mario Mola (ESP) pulling clear into transition and then biking solo for half the 20km bike before being caught by the large train that had formed behind. Multiple attacks were held at bay before a controlled 2.5km final effort to the tape, edging France’s former champions Benjamin Choquert and Krilan le Bihan into second and third. 2023 World Triathlon Duathlon Championships - Elite Women’s Highlights

32 women lined up for the first Elite action of the 2023 World Triathlon Multisport Championships, eyeing the Duathlon world title in Santa Eulalia. The 5km run, 20km bike, 2.5km run course was fast and flat and there was no pause for breath as the athletes attacked from the outset. 2023 World Triathlon Championship Series Highlights: Elite Men’s Highlights

It was back to business for Britain’s Alex Yee on Friday afternoon as he delivered a trademark 5km run to hold off a strong field and earn the first World Triathlon Championship Series Abu Dhabi gold of 2023. It was the perfect way to banish the Championship Finals blues of 2022 for the Olympic silver medallist, 30 seconds back out of the water, bridging to the leaders early on in the 20km bike and then seeing off a field stacked with incredible running talent that had boiled down to Yee, Portugal’s Vasco Vilaca and Brazil’s Manoel Messias with silver and bronze respectively.
