With cheers of a home nation crowd, Canada’s own Lionel Sanders claimed victory to become the 2017 Penticton ITU Long Distance Triathlon World Champion. Overcoming a large deficit from the swim and a flat tire on the bike, the Canadian delivered a come-from-behind performance to collect his first world honour of his career.

2017 WTS Stockholm Women Highlights
Becoming only the second woman in ITU history to have won five World Triathlon Series races in a single season, Bermuda’s Flora Duffy secured the place in history after a dominating victory at the 2017 ITU World Triathlon Stockholm. The win secured her the overall Series leader position going into the Rotterdam Grand Final next month as she will enter the race with a perfect score of 4000 points in the effort of retaining her world title.

2017 WTS Stockholm Men Highlights
Jonathan Brownlee got his first victory of the season after performing a perfect race in 2017 ITU World Triathlon Stockholm. “A great swim, a breakaway on the bike and I pushed hard on the run”, as he said after the race. A perfect combination to redeem himself from his disappointing 4th place in the previous two races. After him, silver and bronze was decided on a sprint finish uphill, with Kristian Blummenfelt (NOR) claiming the silver and Pierre Le Corre (FRA) bronze.

While the women’s field was small, the competition was fierce. Multiple women entered the aquathlon event already having won a Multisport medal earlier in the week.

The full mix of elite, U23 and junior racers started off the aquathlon event with a beach start into Okanagan Lake. With the cloud cover making for a windy and slightly cooler day, the athletes had to endure a tough and choppy swim for the one-kilometre lap.

2017 Yucatan ITU World Cup - Elite Women’s Highlights
Collecting her first world cup victory of the season, USA’s Summer Cook captured the win of the inaugural 2017 Yucatan ITU World Cup. After having a breakthrough 2016 season and stepping onto four world cup podiums, the win was long overdue for the American as she will be named the first-ever Yucatan Champion.

Returning to the world cup podium for the first time since 2015, Mexico’s Irving Perez became the first-ever Champion of the 2017 Yucatan ITU World Cup.
