2017 ITU Hall of Fame Carl Thomas

Thomas was the Vice President of marketing at Speedo Swimwear in 1982, where he then joined Jim Curl to create the U.S. Triathlon Series. The triathlon series quickly spread from the original five cities to 12 nationwide. The format of the series and the distance was considered ideal for Olympic competition, and Thomas predicted that by the time triathlon was an Olympic sport, “hundreds of thousands of athletes will have competed at the Olympic distance” worldwide.In 1984, he founded CAT Sports Inc., creating network televised special events for a number of sports and acting as the executive producer of over 25 televised triathlon events for ESPN, NBC and other national syndications. Thomas also served as the first Treasurer of the International Triathlon Union and has served as a pioneer in the triathlon community.

2017 ITU Hall of Fame Barb Lindquist

Barbara Metz Lindquist (born July 1, 1969 in Wilmington, Delaware) began swimming aged eight, and was eventually recruited to swim at Stanford University, where she was a member of the 1989 NCAA Championship Team. Swimming for the US National Team she won a gold and three silver medals in the 1987 & 1991 Pan American Games. She was a finalist in three events (200m free, 400m free, 800m free) at the 1988 Swimming Olympic Trials. After graduating from Stanford with a B.A. in Human Biology in 1991, she gradually moved into Triathlon, becoming one of the sport’s most consistent performers. Of her 134 career races, she won 33, stood on the podium 86 times, and had 114 top 10 finishes.Barb represented the USA in the 2004 Olympics in Athens, placing 9th. She was a member of the USA Triathlon Team for the ITU World Championships for 10 straight years, with her best finish being a silver medal in 2002 in Cancun, Mexico. Barb’s consistency in racing solidified her as the #1 World ranked ITU triathlete from February 2003 through 2004, a spot held longer than any other male or female in the sport.

2017 ITU World Triathlon Grand Final Rotterdam - Junior Men’s Highlights

Aussie Matthew Hauser added another world championship title to his resume after claiming victory as the Junior World Champion at the 2017 ITU World Triathlon Grand Final. While in July he was a member of the Mixed Relay World Championship team where he earned his first world gold, Hauser repeated his success by delivering a dominating performance in the grand final to collect his second world title of the year, this time in the junior men’s race.

2017 ITU Paratriathlon World Championships

Twelve world titles went up for grab today in Rotterdam at the 2017 ITU Paratriathlon World Championships, with 163 paratriathletes competing in all six classes, and with Great Britain getting the most out of the day, grabbing a total of eight medals, followed by USA with six and Australia with four. Parathletes covered a sprint-distance course featuring a 750-meter swim, 20-kilometer bike and 5-kilometer run

2017 ITU Multisport Festival Wrap

The inaugural ITU Multisport World Championships Festival completed on August 27 after a successful ten-day event in Penticton, Canada that drew in over 3,000 athletes from all over the world to compete in five different multisport competitions.After over two years of preparation and planning, the success of the first-ever event was evident as the city of Penticton saw 507 medals awarded among age group, junior, under-23, elite and paratriathlon levels. Ten gold medals were also awarded as ten elite men and women were named Multisport World Champions.

2017 Karlovy Vary ITU World Cup - Elite Women’s Highlights

Australian Gillian Backhouse won the first ever edition of the ITU Karlovy Vary World Cup after a dominant race, showcasing a magnificient swim, a strong bike and a consistent run in the hills and cobbled streets of the Czech Republic town. Cheered on by the local crowds, local triathlete Vendula Frintova crossed the finish line in second, while American Summer Cook finished third.

2017 Karlovy Vary ITU World Cup - Elite Men’s Highlights

It was a day of firsts in Karlovy Vary for the inaugural ITU World Cup. First time ever Gustav Iden (NOR) has won a World Cup, with an impressive performance, and another first Tayler Reid (NZL) got on the podium in a World Cup, as he finished third. Completing the podium, veteran Italian, Alessandro Fabian, got his first podium of the season after some months off racing following the Rio 2016 Olympics.

Flora Duffy (VER) se convirtió en la segunda mujer en la historia de la ITU en haber ganado cinco carreras de la Serie Mundial de Triatlón en una misma temporada. 2017 WTS Stockholm Women Highlights

Becoming only the second woman in ITU history to have won five World Triathlon Series races in a single season, Bermuda’s Flora Duffy secured the place in history after a dominating victory at the 2017 ITU World Triathlon Stockholm. The win secured her the overall Series leader position going into the Rotterdam Grand Final next month as she will enter the race with a perfect score of 4000 points in the effort of retaining her world title.
